ROMEO, Reducing the costs of offshore wind energy and boosting the renewables industry

Ramboll has been part of the ROMEO project since the end of 2017; an initiative of the EU research program Horizon2020. The goal of the project, which has been running for more than 5 years, is to reduce the operating and maintenance costs of offshore wind farms and systems by real-time analysis of relevant operating parameters within the wind farm.
ROMEO aims to create a platform that enables efficient analysis of operational data to derive and implement optimal, risk-based operations and maintenance strategies. These in turn are designed to improve operations, extend lifetime, reduce maintenance and costs. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2022 and is supported by the most advanced information and communication technologies, such as the "Internet of Things" (IoT).
With many years of extensive experience in structural design, structural health monitoring (SHM), risk analysis, and operations and maintenance (O&M) of offshore wind energy turbines, Ramboll is a major partner to the international consortium of 12 renowned and experienced players.
Ramboll is responsible for the structural condition monitoring (SHM), risk analysis and O&M strategy; The project includes a comprehensive test of the Ramboll-developed monitoring techniques in an offshore wind farm in operation.
This is an important step on the way from corrective to condition-based maintenance.
