Would you recommend an investment in the German onshore wind-energy industry?

During this speech we will draw your attention to the 2015/2016 wind-energy study performed by RSM and CVM. Our study asks if an investment in the German onshore wind-energy industry is still attractive to an investor at the moment. RSM and CVM interviewed 90 companies in the German wind-energy industry; we received 28 answers to our questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed to identify the potential risks and rewards of industry, which an investor will face. To begin, the presentation will show the current and future conditions within the German onshore wind-energy industry. We will then discuss the influencing factors from a due diligence perspective, i.e. political, economic, social/environmental and technical factors. RSM and CVM will focus on the impacts of the Renewable Energy Source Act 2017 (known as ”EEG 2017”) and the new auction model. We are looking forward to discussing with you in the Speakers‘ Corner!

Geislinger Compowind® - a potential solution for drivetrains free of non-torque loads

The use of low-speed couplings in wind drivetrains - a flexible coupling between the rotor and the gearbox - is a rather new approach. Against the background of driving energy cost down and the increasing importance of reliability in particular in the offshore segment, a suitable low-speed coupling is a potential remedy to increase the robustness and reliability of drivetrains. This presentation will show how Geislinger Compowind®, a coupling made of advanced composites, is able to fulfill the requirements on a low-speed coupling in a wind turbine virtually ideal. Compowind® does not add complexity to the drivetrain, is fatigue-resistant and maintenance-free, light-weighted and free of any aging or wearing parts or hydraulic liquids.

Managing Information for total asset management

“As wind farm owners face an increasingly competitive future, both globally and specifically across Europe, there is significant pressure to decrease the levelised cost of energy (LCOE) of operational wind energy projects.
By making better use of the information and data that is available to them, wind farm owners have the opportunity to decrease operational costs, improve production and increase reliability by implementing a total asset management (TAM) system. By integrating data, information and knowledge with effective management systems, owners can achieve significant improvements in the financial performance of their projects.”

6 DOF MBS Study Geislinger Compowind®: Quantifying the Enhancement of the Dynamic Behavior of a Wind Drivetrain

This presentation will show how a flexible coupling, a Geislinger Compowind®, made of advanced composite material, sufficiently reduces non-torque loads and improves the dynamic behavior of the whole drivetrain significantly. For proper quantification of its effect, a multi-body simulation has been carried out in cooperation with the Center for Wind Power Drives (CWD), a department of the RWTH Aachen University. A state-of-the-art generic 6MW offshore model with a three-stepped gearbox and hydraulic torque support was taken as a reference model. A composite coupling with its effective stiffness and damping values, integrated into the model, allowed a direct comparison by performing dynamic simulations. Taking into account all typical load cases, the study facilitates determine the couplings’ influence on load reduction and on the dynamic behavior of the drivetrain.

Risk Mitigation for your Wind Farm Project

The successful operation of a wind farm requires a thorough due diligence and continuous project monitoring – starting early on in the conceptual and implementation phase, throughout the operational phase and ending up with the decommissioning of the assets. All relevant assets and/or data should be thoroughly reviewed in order to reveal potential areas of concern. Especially offshore, the wind turbines are exposed to harsh environmental conditions. Logistics are much more challenging compared to onshore projects. Besides 2nd party inspections during production, transport & installation, important milestones like final acceptance, commissioning and end-of-warranty need to be closely monitored. Additionally, 3rd party and statutory inspections are required. Periodic in-service inspections during the operational phase are essential for a reliable operation of the wind farm and the project’s profitability.

Eigenerzeugung erfolgreich gestalten

Condition Monitoring & Condition Based Maintenance - Ölwechsel bei Bedarf

(in German)
